HDh. Atoll Education Center is the second school established in the atolls as part of a government initiative supported by UNICEF to enhance educational access. The foundation was laid on March 18, 1978, by HDh. Atoll Chief Mr. Theyara Mohamed Rasheed, and the school was officially opened on March 1, 1979, by the Maldives' then President, Mr. Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. It initially operated under the name HDh. Community School.
