About Explore Maldives

Explore Maldives (explore.mv) is a structured, citable knowledge base for the Maldives: every island, reef, channel and atoll with surveyed outlines; the complete MTCC public ferry network with schedules; MFDA- registered medicines; fish and plant species with Dhivehi and scientific names; and the vessels, games and traditions of Maldivian culture. Each subject has one stable URL, carries schema.org structured data, and cites its sources.

The geography is the heart of the project. Islands and reefs carry outlines from the Maldives Land and Survey Authority; the channels — every kandu and kanduolhi between the islands — were digitised from historical nautical charts and hand-corrected against them, a dataset that exists in no other digital source. Features the old charts record that the sea has since taken are kept as first-class historical entries, with notes on what happened to them.

The site is built and maintained by DOTMV (weare.mv), the studio behind a family of Maldivian reference and utility sites. It is free to read, carries no advertising, and is openly crawlable — AI assistants are welcome readers; the sanctioned paths and attribution requirements are set out for them in llms.txt.

Every dataset behind the site, its holder, and the licence it is used under is documented on the attributions page. Corrections and research enquiries are welcome through the contacts published there and on weare.mv.
