The center’s foundation stone was laid on January 15, 1981 by the then Minister of Education, Al-Ustaz Mohammed Zahir Hussain. The center was opened on 10 February 1982 as the Atoll Madrasah. The school was inaugurated by the then Minister of Education, Al-Ustaz Mohammed Zahir Hussain and the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Mr. Kazuochiba. On February 7, 1985, the name of the Atoll Madrassa was changed to the Alifu Atoll Education Centre by the then Minister of Education, Al-Ustaz Mohammed Zahir Hussain. The Minister of Atolls Administration Hon'ble Al-Ustaz Abdullah Hameed attended the ceremony. Following the decentralization of the 2 provinces, on 14 January 1998, the name of the center has been changed to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll Education Centre. The center was constructed by the Government of Maldives under the assistance of the Government of Japan.
