Zolmitriptan

A triptan used for the acute treatment of migraine attacks in adults.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • treating migraine attacks, with or without aura, in adults

Common side effects

  • dizziness
  • sleepiness
  • tingling
  • tightness or pressure in the neck, throat or jaw
  • feeling sick and dry mouth

Cautions

  • not for people with heart disease, past stroke or uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • not for preventing migraine or for cluster headache
  • chest, throat or jaw tightness can occur
  • overusing migraine medicines can itself cause headaches

Interactions

  • other triptans or ergot medicines — do not use within 24 hours
  • MAO-A inhibitors — do not use within 2 weeks
  • serotonergic medicines — risk of serotonin syndrome
