Common uses
- invasive aspergillosis
- serious Candida infections, including candidemia and esophageal candidiasis
- Scedosporium and Fusarium infections when other treatment fails
Common side effects
- vision changes
- fever
- feeling sick or being sick
- rash
- headache
Cautions
- can cause serious liver problems — liver tests needed
- can affect heart rhythm (QT prolongation)
- avoid sunlight — risk of photosensitivity
- can harm an unborn baby — use effective contraception
Interactions
- rifampin and rifabutin (TB medicines) — contraindicated
- carbamazepine and long-acting barbiturates — contraindicated
- St John's wort — contraindicated
- sirolimus — contraindicated
- ergot medicines (e.g. ergotamine) — contraindicated
- many other medicines via liver enzymes — review all medicines
Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
