Vinblastine Sulfate

A chemotherapy injection used to treat lymphomas and several other cancers.

Clinical information

Common uses

Hodgkin's disease and other lymphomas
advanced testicular cancer
Kaposi's sarcoma
breast cancer unresponsive to hormone treatment

Common side effects

low white blood cells
hair loss
constipation
feeling or being sick
numbness or tingling in fingers and toes

Cautions

intravenous use only — fatal if given into the spine
leakage at the drip site can badly irritate tissue
white blood cells can fall to dangerous levels
not started during active bacterial infection

Interactions

phenytoin — blood levels fall, more seizures
CYP3A inhibitors, including erythromycin — worse side effects

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
