Clinical information

Common uses

  • C. difficile-associated diarrhoea
  • gut infection (enterocolitis) caused by Staphylococcus aureus

Common side effects

  • feeling sick
  • stomach pain
  • low potassium

Cautions

  • only works by mouth for these gut infections
  • kidney damage can occur — monitored, especially in older people
  • hearing problems have occurred
  • stop at the first sign of rash or blisters

Pregnancy: only if prescribed — no harms seen in available studies
