Common uses

C. difficile-associated diarrhoea
gut infection (enterocolitis) caused by Staphylococcus aureus

Common side effects

feeling sick
stomach pain
low potassium

Cautions

only works by mouth for these gut infections
kidney damage can occur — monitored, especially in older people
hearing problems have occurred
stop at the first sign of rash or blisters

Pregnancy: only if prescribed — no harms seen in available studies
