Clinical information

Common uses

  • tuberculosis (TB) skin testing in people at risk

Common side effects

  • firm raised swelling at the test site (the expected positive reaction)

Cautions

  • not after a previous severe reaction to a TB skin test
  • not needed with documented active or treated TB
  • not for people with extensive burns or eczema

Interactions

  • corticosteroids and immunosuppressants — may blunt the test result
  • live virus vaccines — delay the test by at least 1 month

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
