Tropicamide

Clinical information

Common uses

dilating the pupil for eye examinations
temporarily relaxing eye focusing for diagnosis

Common side effects

brief stinging
blurred vision
sensitivity to light
dry mouth
headache

Cautions

may briefly raise pressure inside the eye
can cause behavioural disturbances, especially in children
remove contact lenses before use

Interactions

carbachol, pilocarpine and eye cholinesterase inhibitors — effects reduced

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
