headaches
feeling sleepy, tired or dizzy
feeling or being sick
constipation
dry mouth

Cautions

can be addictive — stopped gradually under doctor's advice
do not drive or use machinery if sleepy or dizzy
may not suit people with seizures, head injury or breathing problems
best not to drink alcohol with it

Interactions

MAOI antidepressants (e.g. phenelzine) — do not take together
codeine-containing painkillers — more side effects
antidepressants, sleeping and anxiety medicines
warfarin (blood thinner)
carbamazepine, rifampicin, ondansetron, buprenorphine — may weaken tramadol
recreational drugs — risk of serotonin syndrome

Pregnancy: only if prescribed — baby may need monitoring at birth
