Common side effects
- dry mouth
- drowsiness
- weakness
- dizziness
- constipation
Cautions
- can lower blood pressure
- can injure the liver — liver tests monitored
- very sedating with alcohol or other sedatives
- do not stop suddenly — rebound high blood pressure and fast heartbeat
Interactions
- fluvoxamine (do not combine)
- ciprofloxacin (do not combine)
- other blood pressure-lowering medicines
- alcohol and sedatives (additive drowsiness)
- oral contraceptives, cimetidine, aciclovir (raise its levels)
Pregnancy: only if the benefit outweighs the risk
