Timolol

Beta blocker eye drops that lower high pressure inside the eye, as in glaucoma.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • high eye pressure, often caused by glaucoma

Common side effects

  • blurred vision
  • eye irritation (burning, stinging, itching, redness)
  • headache
  • feeling or being sick

Cautions

  • may not suit people with asthma or COPD
  • may not suit some heart conditions (slow/irregular heartbeat, heart failure)
  • do not let the dropper touch the eye — infection risk
  • do not drive while your vision is blurred

Interactions

  • other beta blockers (tablets or eye drops)
  • blood pressure medicines such as nifedipine and clonidine
  • diabetes medicines
  • digoxin (heart medicine)
  • adrenaline (used for severe allergic reactions)
