community-acquired bacterial pneumonia

Common side effects

feeling sick
vomiting
diarrhoea
stomach pain
headache

Cautions

boxed warning: slightly higher death rate than comparator antibiotics
used only when other treatments are unsuitable
can permanently stain developing teeth (late pregnancy, childhood under 8)
pancreatitis and liver problems reported

Interactions

warfarin (blood thinner) — clotting tests monitored
tacrolimus and ciclosporin — levels monitored

Pregnancy: avoid later pregnancy — can affect the baby's teeth and bones
