Common uses

underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)

Common side effects

difficulty sleeping
headaches
feeling anxious
sweating
hair loss

Cautions

most side effects mean the dose is too high
rare thyroid crisis — fever, racing heart, jaundice
may not suit overactive thyroid, diabetes, adrenal or heart conditions

Interactions

carbamazepine (epilepsy medicine)
omeprazole and antacids
calcium and iron supplements
beta-blockers and digoxin
sertraline; semaglutide; St John's wort; biotin (affects thyroid tests)

Pregnancy: can be taken in pregnancy — extra blood tests needed
