Terlipressin

Clinical information

Common uses

  • hepatorenal syndrome with rapidly worsening kidney function

Common side effects

  • abdominal pain
  • feeling sick
  • breathing failure
  • diarrhoea
  • breathlessness

Cautions

  • boxed warning: can cause serious or fatal breathing failure
  • oxygen levels monitored continuously during treatment
  • can cause heart, limb or gut ischemia (poor blood flow)
  • side effects may make a patient ineligible for liver transplant

Pregnancy: avoid — may harm the developing baby
