postmenopausal osteoporosis at high fracture risk

steroid-induced osteoporosis

Common side effects

joint pain
pain
feeling sick

Cautions

avoided if at increased risk of bone cancer (osteosarcoma)
avoided with high blood calcium disorders
caution with active or recent kidney stones
can cause brief dizziness or low blood pressure at first

Interactions

digoxin (heart medicine) — high calcium may add to toxicity

Pregnancy: consider stopping when pregnancy is recognised
