Terbutaline

A bronchodilator tablet that prevents and reverses airway narrowing in asthma and bronchitis.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • asthma (age 12+)
  • reversible bronchospasm with bronchitis or emphysema

Common side effects

  • nervousness
  • tremor
  • headache
  • drowsiness
  • palpitations

Cautions

  • boxed warning: must not be used to delay preterm labour
  • needing more doses than usual signals worsening asthma
  • caution with heart problems and high blood pressure
  • rare reports of seizures

Pregnancy: never for delaying labour — serious harm reported in pregnant women
