Telmisartan + Hydrochlorothiazide

A combination of telmisartan (ARB) and hydrochlorothiazide (water tablet) to lower blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure (not as first treatment)

Common side effects

dizziness
upper respiratory tract infection
sinusitis
diarrhoea
fatigue

Cautions

boxed warning: can injure or kill a developing fetus
correct dehydration first — can cause low blood pressure
kidney function and potassium monitored
sudden eye pain or vision change needs urgent review

Interactions

lithium — toxicity risk
NSAID painkillers — kidney risk, weaker effect
aliskiren and other renin-angiotensin drugs (avoid combining)
diabetes medicines — dose may need adjusting
cholestyramine and colestipol (reduce absorption)

Pregnancy: avoid — stop as soon as pregnancy is detected
