Tamsulosin Hcl

An alpha blocker that eases symptoms of an enlarged prostate and helps kidney stones pass.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • enlarged prostate symptoms
  • kidney stones
  • prostatitis (occasionally)

Common side effects

  • feeling dizzy
  • sweating
  • problems ejaculating (little or no semen)

Cautions

  • may cause dizziness at first — avoid driving until you feel better
  • tell your doctor before cataract or glaucoma surgery
  • alcohol increases the dizziness
  • not suitable with severe liver or kidney problems

Interactions

  • other alpha blockers (doxazosin, alfuzosin) — lower blood pressure
  • blood pressure medicines — may drop pressure too far
  • erectile dysfunction medicines (sildenafil, tadalafil)
  • ketoconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin (slow its removal)
  • diclofenac and warfarin (speed its removal)
  • alcohol
