Tadalafil

A medicine mainly used to treat erection problems (erectile dysfunction).

Clinical information

Common uses

  • erectile dysfunction
  • peeing problems from an enlarged prostate
  • pulmonary arterial hypertension

Common side effects

  • indigestion
  • muscle aches, back pain
  • blocked or stuffy nose
  • flushed face
  • headache

Cautions

  • not suitable soon after a heart attack or stroke
  • not with very low or uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • caution with sickle cell anaemia, leukaemia or myeloma
  • do not drink grapefruit juice

Interactions

  • nitrates for chest pain — dangerous blood pressure drop
  • poppers (amyl nitrate) and recreational drugs — serious risk
  • rifampicin, erythromycin, clarithromycin (antibiotics)
  • HIV medicines
  • antifungal medicines
  • other blood pressure or erectile dysfunction medicines

Pregnancy: avoid while pregnant or breastfeeding
