Clinical information

Common uses

chronic hepatitis C, genotypes 1 to 6
with ribavirin in decompensated cirrhosis

Common side effects

headache
tiredness
with ribavirin: anaemia, feeling sick, insomnia, diarrhoea

Cautions

boxed warning: hepatitis B can reactivate — test before starting
serious slow heartbeat when taken with amiodarone

Interactions

amiodarone (heart rhythm drug) — not recommended
St John's wort — not recommended
rifampin and similar strong inducers — not recommended
carbamazepine, phenytoin, phenobarbital (seizure medicines)
acid-reducing medicines (antacids, omeprazole-type drugs)
rosuvastatin and digoxin — levels can rise

Pregnancy: with ribavirin: do not use; alone: no adequate human data
