Sirolimus

An immunosuppressant tablet that helps prevent rejection of a transplanted kidney.

Clinical information

Common uses

preventing kidney transplant rejection
lymphangioleiomyomatosis (a rare lung disease)

Common side effects

swelling in ankles and feet
high blood pressure
raised cholesterol and triglycerides
stomach pain
headache

Cautions

boxed warning: higher risk of serious infections
boxed warning: higher risk of lymphoma and other cancers
not recommended after liver or lung transplants
can slow wound healing

Interactions

strong CYP3A4/P-gp inhibitors — raise sirolimus levels; avoid
strong CYP3A4/P-gp inducers — lower sirolimus levels; avoid
cannabidiol — may raise sirolimus levels
cyclosporine (transplant medicine) — used together under monitoring

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm the baby
