An anti-VEGF injection into the eye for wet macular degeneration and other retinal conditions.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • wet age-related macular degeneration
  • macular oedema after retinal vein occlusion
  • diabetic macular oedema and diabetic retinopathy
  • myopic choroidal neovascularisation

Common side effects

  • bleeding on the white of the eye
  • eye pain
  • floaters
  • raised eye pressure

Cautions

  • eye infection or retinal detachment can follow injections — monitored
  • raised eye pressure can occur
  • possible risk of blood clot events

Interactions

  • photodynamic therapy — serious eye inflammation reported when given together

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
