Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
heart failure
after a heart attack
preventing strokes and kidney problems

Common side effects

a dry, persistent cough
feeling dizzy or lightheaded
headaches
diarrhoea
being sick

Cautions

first dose can cause dizziness — take at bedtime
blood tests needed to check kidneys and potassium
tell your doctor if severe vomiting or diarrhoea
avoid high-potassium salt substitutes

Interactions

NSAIDs such as ibuprofen
potassium-raising medicines like spironolactone or amiloride
diuretics such as furosemide
lithium
sacubitril and other angioedema-risk medicines
diabetes medicines

Pregnancy: avoid — can damage the baby's kidneys; see your doctor
