Prochlorperazine

Clinical information

Common uses

  • nausea and vomiting, including pregnancy and motion sickness
  • vertigo and Ménière's disease
  • sickness from migraines, surgery or other medicines
  • occasionally anxiety

Common side effects

  • feeling sleepy or drowsy
  • blurred vision
  • dry mouth
  • headaches
  • stuffy nose

Cautions

  • best not to drink alcohol — increases sleepiness
  • stopping suddenly after long use causes withdrawal symptoms
  • do not drive if sleepy or heartbeat feels irregular

Interactions

  • medicines that make you sleepy
  • medicines that give you a dry mouth
  • medicines that can affect your heart
  • other anti-sickness medicines — usually take only one
