Common uses
- stage III and IV Hodgkin's disease, in the MOPP regimen
Common side effects
- feeling sick and vomiting — most common
- low white blood cells and anaemia
- low platelets
- mild joint and muscle aches
Cautions
- avoid alcohol — causes a disulfiram-like reaction
- avoid tyramine-rich foods like ripe cheese, wine and bananas
- second cancers reported after treatment
- not with poor bone marrow reserve
Interactions
- alcohol — disulfiram-like reaction
- tricyclic antidepressants — avoid
- sympathomimetic drugs — avoid
- barbiturates, antihistamines, narcotics and phenothiazines — use cautiously
- tyramine-rich foods (wine, yogurt, ripe cheese, bananas)
