A thalidomide-analogue capsule for multiple myeloma and Kaposi sarcoma.

Clinical information

Common uses

multiple myeloma after prior treatments (with dexamethasone)
AIDS-related and HIV-negative Kaposi sarcoma

Common side effects

tiredness and weakness
low white blood cells (neutropenia)
anaemia
constipation
feeling sick and diarrhoea

Cautions

boxed warning: causes severe birth defects — strict pregnancy prevention required
boxed warning: blood clots, heart attack and stroke — preventive therapy advised
monitor blood counts — neutropenia is frequent
liver failure and severe skin reactions reported

Interactions

strong CYP1A2 inhibitors (avoid, or reduce pomalidomide dose)

Pregnancy: never use in pregnancy — causes severe birth defects
