Common uses

steroid-responsive eye inflammation with bacterial infection risk

Common side effects

allergic sensitisation (itching, redness, rash)
raised pressure inside the eye
delayed healing

Cautions

not for viral, fungal or mycobacterial eye infections
prolonged use can cause glaucoma and cataract — check eye pressure after 10 days
not for injection into the eye
neomycin can cause skin sensitisation

Pregnancy: only if benefit justifies risk
