Pneumococcal Conjugate

A vaccine that protects against pneumococcal disease, pneumonia and ear infections.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease (from 6 weeks of age)
  • prevention of pneumococcal pneumonia in adults
  • prevention of pneumococcal ear infections in young children

Common side effects

  • pain, redness or swelling where injected
  • irritability in infants
  • drowsiness or fatigue
  • muscle pain and headache
  • fever

Cautions

  • do not give after severe allergic reaction to its components or diphtheria toxoid
  • apnoea has occurred in some premature infants after vaccination
