Clinical information

Common uses

low blood pressure from vasodilation during anaesthesia

Common side effects

slow heartbeat
nausea
vomiting
headache

Cautions

can worsen angina and heart failure
leakage at the drip site can damage tissue
can reduce blood flow to organs and kidneys

Interactions

oxytocic drugs (blood-pressure effect is increased)

Pregnancy: no established risk — used during caesarean anaesthesia
