Clinical information

Common uses

  • high blood pressure and sweating episodes in phaeochromocytoma

Common side effects

  • dizziness on standing (low blood pressure)
  • fast heartbeat
  • stuffy nose
  • drowsiness and tiredness
  • stomach irritation

Cautions

  • not for conditions where a blood pressure fall would be risky
  • adrenaline-like drugs can cause an exaggerated pressure drop

Interactions

  • drugs stimulating both adrenergic receptor types (exaggerated low blood pressure)

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
