Pembrolizumab

An immunotherapy antibody (PD-1 blocker) used to treat many types of cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • melanoma
  • non-small cell lung cancer
  • head and neck, bladder, stomach and other cancers
  • certain gene-marker positive tumours (MSI-H, TMB-H)

Common side effects

  • tiredness
  • muscle and joint pain
  • rash and itching
  • diarrhoea
  • decreased appetite

Cautions

  • immune-related organ inflammation (lungs, gut, liver, glands) can be severe or fatal
  • regular blood tests for liver, kidney and thyroid needed
  • infusion or injection reactions can occur
  • can harm an unborn baby — effective contraception needed
