Common uses
- advanced renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer)
- advanced soft tissue sarcoma after chemotherapy
Common side effects
- diarrhoea
- high blood pressure
- hair colour changes
- feeling sick and vomiting
- loss of appetite
Cautions
- boxed warning: severe, sometimes fatal liver toxicity — regular liver tests needed
- can cause heart rhythm and heart function problems
- serious bleeding and blood clot events can occur
- can harm an unborn baby — effective contraception needed
Interactions
- strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (avoid or reduce dose)
- strong CYP3A4 inducers (avoid)
- simvastatin (raises risk of liver enzyme rises)
- antacids, PPIs and other acid reducers (avoid)
- narrow-margin medicines broken down by CYP3A4, 2D6 or 2C8
Pregnancy: avoid — can harm an unborn baby
