Paclitaxel

Paclitaxel is a chemotherapy infusion for breast, lung and pancreatic cancers.

Clinical information

Common uses

metastatic breast cancer
non-small cell lung cancer (with carboplatin)
pancreatic cancer (with gemcitabine)

Common side effects

hair loss
low blood cell counts
numbness or tingling (nerve damage)
tiredness
feeling sick

Cautions

boxed warning: severe bone-marrow suppression — frequent blood tests
not given if white blood cells are too low
severe allergic reactions — never given again after one
contains albumin from human blood

Interactions

CYP2C8 or CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers — use caution

Pregnancy: can harm an unborn baby — avoid
