inducing labour for medical reasons
strengthening labour contractions

Common side effects

nausea
vomiting

Cautions

hospital use with continuous monitoring only
not for elective induction without medical need
overdose can cause dangerously strong contractions or uterine rupture
water intoxication reported with prolonged slow infusion

Interactions

vasoconstrictor drugs with caudal block anaesthesia (severe hypertension)
cyclopropane anaesthesia

Pregnancy: used in labour under hospital supervision
