Common uses
- urinary urgency, frequency and incontinence
- bedwetting in children
Common side effects
- dry mouth
- blurred vision
- constipation
- feeling dizzy or sleepy
- headache
Cautions
- may worsen confusion or dementia in older people
- not suitable with acute angle closure glaucoma or myasthenia gravis
- risk of overheating — sweating can be reduced
- do not drive if drowsy or vision is blurred
Interactions
- dementia medicines (donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine)
- tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline
- Parkinson's medicines (levodopa, amantadine)
- antipsychotics such as haloperidol or clozapine
- sedatives and sedating antihistamines
- erythromycin and other macrolide antibiotics
Pregnancy: occasionally used for severe symptoms — only if prescribed
