Oxaliplatin is a platinum chemotherapy infusion for colon and colorectal cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

stage III colon cancer after surgery (with fluorouracil/leucovorin)
advanced colorectal cancer

Common side effects

numbness or tingling in hands and feet
low blood cell counts
feeling sick and vomiting
diarrhoea
tiredness

Cautions

boxed warning: severe allergic reactions can occur within minutes
nerve damage — avoid cold; dose changes may be needed
blood counts monitored before each dose
can harm an unborn baby — contraception needed

Interactions

oral anticoagulants such as warfarin — extra monitoring
other QT-prolonging medicines

Pregnancy: can harm an unborn baby — avoid
