Ondansetron

Ondansetron prevents nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

Clinical information

Common uses

nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy
nausea and vomiting from radiotherapy
post-operative nausea and vomiting

Common side effects

headache
constipation
diarrhoea
tiredness or malaise

Cautions

can affect heart rhythm — avoid in congenital long QT syndrome
serotonin syndrome possible with serotonergic medicines
never combine with apomorphine
dispersible tablets contain phenylalanine (phenylketonuria warning)

Interactions

apomorphine — do not combine; severe low blood pressure
serotonergic drugs (e.g. some antidepressants) — serotonin syndrome risk
other QT-prolonging medicines — heart monitoring advised
