Omalizumab

Omalizumab is an anti-IgE injection for severe allergic asthma, nasal polyps, food allergy and chronic hives.

Clinical information

Common uses

moderate to severe allergic asthma
chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps
reducing reactions in IgE-mediated food allergy
chronic spontaneous urticaria (hives)

Common side effects

joint pain
tiredness
dizziness
headache
injection site reactions

Cautions

boxed warning: anaphylaxis can occur, even after many doses
treatment started in a healthcare setting
not for sudden asthma attacks or emergencies
malignancies observed in clinical studies

Pregnancy: registry showed no rise in birth defects — only if prescribed
