Olopatadine Hydrochloride

An antihistamine used as a nasal spray for hay fever and as eye drops for itchy, red allergy eyes.

Clinical information

Common uses

seasonal allergic rhinitis (nasal spray)
itchy, red eyes from pollen, animal hair or dander (eye drops)

Common side effects

bitter taste
headache
nosebleeds
sore throat or post-nasal drip
cough

Cautions

nasal spray can cause nose ulcers or septum damage — stop if these occur
can cause sleepiness — avoid driving or hazardous work
eye drops: remove contact lenses first; stop if eye pain or vision changes
eye drops not for contact-lens-related irritation

Interactions

alcohol and other sedating medicines — increased drowsiness (avoid)
