Olmesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker tablet that lowers high blood pressure.

Common uses

high blood pressure (adults and children 6+)

Common side effects

dizziness

Cautions

boxed warning: can injure or kill an unborn baby — stop if pregnant
can cause severe chronic diarrhoea (sprue-like enteropathy)
low blood pressure possible if dehydrated or salt-depleted
kidney function may worsen in susceptible people

Interactions

potassium supplements or potassium-raising medicines
NSAIDs — kidney risk and weaker blood pressure effect
aliskiren — do not combine if diabetic
colesevelam — take olmesartan 4 hours before it
lithium — levels can rise

Pregnancy: do not use — can injure or kill the unborn baby
