Nebivolol Hydrochloride

A beta blocker used to lower high blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • high blood pressure

Common side effects

  • headache
  • fatigue

Cautions

  • do not stop suddenly — can worsen heart disease
  • not with very slow heart rate, heart block or severe liver problems
  • can mask low blood sugar symptoms in diabetes

Interactions

  • CYP2D6 inhibitors such as fluoxetine (raise its levels)
  • reserpine or clonidine (excess drop in sympathetic activity)
  • digoxin (slow heart rate risk)
  • verapamil or diltiazem (excessive heart slowing)

Pregnancy: only if prescribed — third-trimester use can affect the newborn
