Common side effects

headache
fatigue

Cautions

do not stop suddenly — can worsen heart disease
not with very slow heart rate, heart block or severe liver problems
can mask low blood sugar symptoms in diabetes

Interactions

CYP2D6 inhibitors such as fluoxetine (raise its levels)
reserpine or clonidine (excess drop in sympathetic activity)
digoxin (slow heart rate risk)
verapamil or diltiazem (excessive heart slowing)

Pregnancy: only if prescribed — third-trimester use can affect the newborn
