Clinical information

Common uses

reversing opioid overdose, including stopped breathing
diagnosing suspected opioid overdose

Common side effects

nausea
vomiting
sweating
fast heartbeat
shakiness

Cautions

can trigger sudden withdrawal in opioid-dependent people, including newborns
serious heart and lung events reported after surgery

Interactions

buprenorphine — much larger naloxone doses needed to reverse

Pregnancy: only if clearly needed
