Immunoglobulin that prevents rhesus sensitisation and treats ITP.

Clinical information

Common uses

preventing Rh isoimmunisation in Rh-negative pregnancy
Rh prophylaxis after obstetric complications or incompatible transfusion
raising platelets in immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)

Common side effects

headache
chills and fever
weakness or paleness
nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
joint, muscle, abdominal or back pain

Cautions

ITP use can cause fatal red-cell destruction — 8-hour monitoring
severe allergic reactions possible; not with IgA deficiency plus antibodies
made from human plasma — theoretical infection risk
kidney injury and clotting events reported

Interactions

live virus vaccines (measles, mumps, rubella) — response may be reduced

Pregnancy: used in pregnancy for Rh prophylaxis — no fetal harm shown
