Metoclopramide

An anti-sickness medicine (Maxolon) that stops nausea and vomiting.

Clinical information

Common uses

nausea and vomiting, including after chemotherapy or radiotherapy
sickness during migraine

Common side effects

feeling sleepy (drowsy)
low mood or depression
diarrhoea
feeling unusually weak

Cautions

usually 5 days maximum — movement disorders can develop
not with Parkinson's disease or epilepsy
not after recent gut surgery or with gut blockage
best to avoid alcohol

Interactions

SSRI antidepressants
Parkinson's disease medicines
sedating medicines (strong painkillers, anxiety medicines)
medicines for psychosis

Pregnancy: can be used if needed
