Long-acting injection that treats anaemia in kidney disease.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • anaemia of chronic kidney disease, on or off dialysis
  • children 3 months and older converting from another ESA

Common side effects

  • high blood pressure
  • diarrhoea
  • cold-like symptoms

Cautions

  • raises risk of death, heart attack, stroke and blood clots
  • not for anaemia caused by cancer chemotherapy
  • blood pressure must be controlled; seizure risk monitored
  • stop for serious allergic or severe skin reactions

Pregnancy: insufficient human data — kidney disease itself carries risks
