An aminosalicylate (delayed-release tablet) for ulcerative colitis.

Clinical information

Common uses

inducing and maintaining remission of ulcerative colitis
ulcerative colitis in children 24 kg and over

Common side effects

headache
wind (flatulence)
abnormal liver tests
abdominal pain
diarrhoea

Cautions

kidney function checked before and during treatment
acute intolerance syndrome can mimic a colitis flare
not with salicylate or aminosalicylate allergy
sun sensitivity — protect skin outdoors

Interactions

NSAIDs and other kidney-harming drugs
azathioprine or 6-mercaptopurine — blood disorder risk

Pregnancy: no clear link to birth defects in studies
