Measles Vaccine

A live measles-containing vaccine, given as combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

Clinical information

Common uses

prevention of measles
prevention of mumps and rubella (combined vaccine)

Common side effects

injection-site pain, redness or swelling
fever
measles-like or rubella-like rash

Cautions

not for people with weakened immune systems
not during moderate or severe febrile illness or untreated TB
caution after egg anaphylaxis or febrile seizures
caution with a history of low platelets (thrombocytopenia)

Interactions

immune globulins and blood products — do not give together
can temporarily blunt tuberculin (TB) skin tests

Pregnancy: do not give — avoid pregnancy for 1 month after
