Losartan Potassium + Hydrochlorothiazide

A combination tablet of losartan (ARB) and hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic) for high blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
reducing stroke risk in hypertension with left ventricular hypertrophy

Common side effects

dizziness
upper respiratory infection
cough
back pain

Cautions

boxed warning: can injure or kill an unborn baby
low blood pressure if dehydrated or salt-depleted
kidney function and potassium need monitoring
can trigger acute glaucoma or worsen lupus

Interactions

potassium-raising drugs — high potassium risk
lithium — toxicity risk
NSAIDs — kidney harm, weaker effect
aliskiren in diabetes — do not combine
diabetes medicines may need dose changes
cholestyramine and colestipol reduce absorption

Pregnancy: do not use — stop as soon as pregnancy is detected
