Losartan Potassium

An angiotensin receptor blocker (Cozaar) used mainly for high blood pressure.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
heart failure
kidney disease caused by type 2 diabetes

Common side effects

dizziness
tiredness
headache
feeling or being sick
swollen legs, ankles or feet

Cautions

not usually used in pregnancy or breastfeeding
regular blood tests and blood pressure checks needed
dehydration risk if ill with vomiting or diarrhoea
may be unsuitable after previous angioedema

Interactions

other blood pressure medicines (beta blockers, ACE inhibitors)
spironolactone and other diuretics
potassium supplements and salt substitutes
NSAIDs (ibuprofen)
lithium
grapefruit juice — stops it working properly

Pregnancy: avoid — your doctor will offer different treatment
